Obituary of John Shortino, Sr.
John Shortino, Sr., of Succasunna, NJ passed away on December 10, 2017 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover, NJ surrounded by his loving family. John was born on Christmas Day 1926 in Garfield, NJ to the late Michael Shortino and the late Bennedetta (Librera) Shortino. He proudly served in the U.S. Army towards the end of WWII. The youngest of seven and raised by his widowed mother, John worked seven days a week for 40 years at a Paper Mill in Paterson, NJ. He dedicated his life to his work in order to provide a better life for his family. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed watching auto racing.
He is survived by his devoted son John Shortino, Jr. and wife Denise; grandchildren, Timothy Shortino and wife Jennifer, Kimberly Diedtrich and husband William, Amy Maisonet, Amanda Singh, and Jonathan Acevedo and wife Crystel; great-grandchildren, Avery, Liam, and Everliegh Acevedo; his loving daughter Bernadette Windler and husband Mark; three granddaughters, Ashley Piskunov, Amber Piskunov, and Emily Spaeth; longtime partner Carmen Acosta; and their children, Loving Daughter Carmen Vazquez, Loving Daughter Virgen Sela, Peter, and William; and by grandchildren David Montalvo, Elliott Montalvo and great-granddaughters Angelina and Stella , and other loving family members. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Shortino in 2007 and loving granddaughter Deanna Sela in 2017.
John’s Celebration of Life will include a visitation from 2-4PM & 7-9PM on Thursday December 14, 2017 at the William J. Leber Funeral Home (908) 879-3090, 15 Furnace Rd. (corner of Rt. 206) Chester, NJ 07930. Friends and Family are respectfully invited to gather at the Funeral Home Friday December 15, 2017 from 8:30AM – 9:30AM prior to the 10:30AM Funeral Mass at St. Therese RC Church in Succasunna. Interment will follow at the Succasunna Presbyterian Cemetery.
