Obituary of William Merdinger
William H. Merdinger, Jr., of Long Valley, passed away on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. He was 76. Bill was born on July 18, 1941 in Orange, NJ to the late William H. Merdinger and Mary Catherine Dickinson. He grew up in West Orange, graduated from Orange High School, and has been living in Long Valley since 1980. Bill worked as a Tax Assessor for the State of NJ. He was also a certified Real Estate Appraiser and co-founded Dickinson & McCormick, Inc. in 1974 with his late wife Marilyn. His hobbies included stamp collecting, photography, ornithology, prehistoric dinosaurs and bird watching. He loved the nature and the outdoors. His passion was learning and reading about the Civil War. Bill enjoyed spending time with his dog, Zoey.
Bill is survived by his partner Deborah Strong of Long Valley, NJ; several nieces and nephews; and adopted brother Bill Reilly and his wife Joanne. He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn "Lyn" (Stewart) Merdinger in 2010; sister, Agnes Cooney in 2013; and by his brother, Michael Merdinger in 2016.
Bill's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Monday May 7, 2018 from 12pm to 1pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090. A 1pm funeral service will be held at the funeral home following the visitation on Monday. Interment will be held at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ.
