Visitation at Funeral Home
Obituary of Therese Hensler
Therese B. Hensler, age 86, of Chester, NJ passed away on Tuesday, June 5th 2018. True to her spirited nature, Terry was born during a blizzard in the (then) coal mining town of Wilkes-Barre, PA on March 28, 1932. She spent the majority of her life in New Jersey, living in Whippany and Stewartsville before moving to Chester 15 years ago. The oldest of four siblings of Mickey and Ida Brisk, Terry's parents encouraged her to seek higher education, and she successfully completed her BS in Biology from Misericordia College in 1953. Realizing there were not many opportunities for someone with her background in Wilkes-Barre, Terry credited her mother with sending her to live with her cousins in Union, NJ, where she went to work at White Labs as a technician. There she met the love of her life and future husband, William T. Hensler. They were blessed with five children and 11 grandchildren.
She was a free spirit, an activist, and a talented artist. She was a homemaker for many years, an accomplished accordionist, cared deeply about her Catholic faith and the plight of the poor, and was proud of her Polish heritage. Actively involved in the Catholic Youth Organization, she taught CCD at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Whippany for many years.
Most of all, she deeply valued family time, especially loved spending time with her husband, her children, and grandchildren. They were her passion.
Terry is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, William, and is survived by her children, Tracey Battista and husband Michael, Drs. William Jr. and wife Bebi Samantha, Michael and wife Cheryl, Ronald, and Marygay Cross and husband Chuck, and her 11 grandchildren, Michael Travers, Derek, Kelly, Michael John, Natalie, Alicia, Rayad, Tucker, Brayden, Rebecca, and Michael William.
The family invites the public to a viewing at Leber Funeral Home in Chester on Saturday, June 9th between 12:00 noon and 1:00 PM, followed by a 1:30 PM funeral mass at St. Lawrence Church in Chester. Interment will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
