Obituary of Cheryl Anne Chapman

Cheryl Anne (Sankey) Chapman, of Chester, NJ passed away on December 31, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center, held by her loving family. She lived vibrantly and robustly for 68 years, an example of honesty, generosity, and hard work. Cheryl was born on February 9, 1950 in Detroit, MI to the late and beloved William Sankey and Angela Wanda (Stanley) Sankey. A graduate of Wayne State University in Michigan, Cheryl had numerous adventures in Warren and Sterling Heights, MI, Huntington Beach, CA and Florham Park, NJ before moving to Chester 34 years ago. She worked as a Registered Nurse in critical and cardiac care in Michigan, California, and for St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.  Cheryl served as the Vice President and chief negotiator for the Chester Township Board of Education for 9 years. She organized and ran a highly successful and well-remembered golf outing for the Chester Township PTA, one of the most successful fundraisers on record due to her diligent and conscientious work. She was passionate about her family history, spending hours over many years compiling a book dating back to the eighteenth century, and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed cooking, crafting, crocheting, indoor and outdoor gardening, playing cards, fishing, and was an avid and accomplished bowler whose high score at Pastime Lanes in Mendham still stands as the record. She loved and cared for animals of all kinds, rescuing numerous dogs as well as injured or wayward wild animals. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with loved ones, whether throwing a party for 30, celebrating holidays, or playing a lively game of pinochle.

She will be celebrated and missed by her beloved husband of 38 years, Robert Philip Chapman; two devoted daughters, Amy Chapman, and Emily (Chapman) Marotta and her husband Anthony; two cherished grandsons, Chase William and Colin Robert Marotta; two sisters, Christine Richman and her husband Douglas, and Dr. Beverly Sankey; her sister-in-law Bonnie Giordano and her husband Patrick, and brother-in-law Kim Chapman and his wife Patricia; her nieces Wanda Sankey, Kaley Richman, Michelle Davis, Pam Heilmann, Bonnie Jean Mulcahy, and Trish Boll; her nephews, Scott Cavender and Matthew Chapman, and by many other loving family members and friends.

A celebration of Cheryl’s life will include a Funeral Mass on Saturday January 12, 2019 at 10am at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Florham Park, NJ. Interment will be held privately by her family.
