Obituary of Joseph Masciarelli
Joseph Masciarelli, 94, of Flanders, NJ passed away on September 30, 2019 at home with his family by his side. Joseph was born on March 26, 1925 in Lama dei Peligni, Italy. He came to the United States in his early 30’s and lived in Netcong, NJ until moving to Flanders in 1966. He spent over 50 years living in Flanders before moving to Colonial Manor in Allamuchy,NJ where he resided for two years before moving to his daughter’s home in Andover, NJ three months ago. Joseph worked for twenty-five years at Dover Handbag Co. in Netcong, NJ and then he worked another fifteen years as a custodian for the Roxbury Twp. School District. He was a member of the Hackettstown Knights of Columbus, Council #2483, and was a parishioner at St. Michael’s RC Parish in Netcong, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton RC Parish in Flanders.
Joseph enjoyed cooking for himself and his family. He especially loved to make pastina for his grandkids. In the Summer you could find Joseph outside taking care of his garden and his yard and talking to everyone that would pass by. He enjoyed spending his vacations at the shore as he loved the sand and the ocean. He was full of life and entertained his family and friends with funny jokes and “goofball” antics. He will be remembered most for his hard-working nature, and devotion to his family.
Joseph is survived by his three children, Angelo Masciarelli and wife Lesley, Mary Morgan and husband Don, and Christina Gronau and husband Adam; his six grandchildren, Anna, Zachary, Trevor, Kaitlyn, Jenna, and Leigha; and by many other loving family members and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Domenica Masciarelli.
A Celebration of Joseph’s Life will include a visitation on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 4:00-8:00pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (Corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090. A 10am funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 4, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Flanders, NJ. Burial will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Stanhope, NJ.
