Obituary of Rose Battista

Rose Battista, aged 78, died on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Dover.  She was born in Manhattan and grew up in the Bronx, New York.  She married Joseph Battista in 1964 and moved to Flanders, New Jersey where she raised her children and formed many friendships in her neighborhood, some lasting over 50 years.  In 1978 she earned her nursing license and proudly served at St. Clare’s Hospital (then known as Dover General) for 32 years.  She held a number of positions including Charge Nurse and Administrative Supervisor. She supervised nursing staff who regarded her as a “mother hen” nurturing and guiding them both at St. Clare’s Dover and Denville campuses. When she retired in 2010 she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially regular morning breakfasts at Panera and Adam’s Diner.

She will be sadly missed for her happy, upbeat spirit, and her ready laughter.  She took great joy in her grandchildren, always remembering them with her special cards and treats for any excuse for a holiday, and she even adored all her many “fur grandbabies” over the years, enjoying hosting them in her house and stocking up on special treats for them too.  She is lovingly remembered for her special rice pudding, a staple at every holiday,

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Joe; her son Joseph and his wife Kate of Flemington; son Rich and his wife Ludmila of Flanders, daughter Julianne and her husband Larry of Stirling; loving grandchildren Viviana, Natasha, Lilah and Max.  She will be dearly missed by her devoted siblings; sister Jessie DiMichele of East Northport, NY, Al Salvatico and his wife, Jeannie of Garden City, NY; Louie Salvatico and his wife JoEllen of New Hyde Park, NY, brother- and sister-in-law Dennis and Antoinette Forand, of Denville NJ, Ralph Battista of Colts Neck NJ, and Mary Grassi of Punta Gorda FL.  There are so many other in-laws, nieces, nephews, “grand-nieces/nephews,” extended family and friends that were impacted by her life.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 15th at the William J. Leber Funeral Home in Chester, NJ, 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm with private interment following.
