Obituary of June B. Smith

June B. Smith, 90, of Long Valley, NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Heath Village Retirement Community. Born and raised in Bloomfield, June graduated from Bloomfield High School and Berkeley Secretarial School. In 1951, June married the love of her life, they were married for 66 years. They lived in Bloomfield, Los Angeles, and Pompton Plains before settling in Chester Township where they lived for 46 years. While her children were young, June's focus was on her family. She was active in her community, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, class mom and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pleasant Hill Cemetery. June was a member of the Fairmount Presbyterian Church. Once her children were grown, June resumed her career and was employed by Bell Labs and Bellcore for several years. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. June is survived by her children, Susan Kratch and husband John, Jeffrey D. Smith and wife Sandra, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Margaret Smith Lord, and her daughter-in-law, Megan Smith. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James D. Smith in 2017, son, Scott Smith, and brother, Arthur Benson. A Celebration of June's Life will include a visitation on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 11am to 1pm followed by a 1pm funeral service at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ 07930. Interment will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Long Valley First Aid Squad, PO Box 111, Long Valley, NJ 07853.
