Obituary of Joseph Michael Peters

Joseph M. Peters, 62, of Budd Lake, died at home surrounded by his family and friends. He leaves behind his loving wife, Clare Bette (Vincent) Peters, son Eric Peters and his wife, Kelly (Stirrup), of Philadelphia, PA. Predeceased by his parents, Elmer J. Peters and Theresa B. Peters, he is also survived by his sister, Patricia Johnson of Connecticut, his brother, James, of Budd Lake, and many well loved friends.Born in Kearny, he grew up in West Caldwell, before moving to Budd Lake 36 years ago. A faithful member and past usher at St. Jude Thaddeus R. C. Church, he was a member of the Fr. Joseph A. Cassidy Council 6100 Knights of Columbus in Budd Lake and a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree member of the Msgr. Edwin E. Lange Assembly in Netcong, he was also a member of the Color Corps.He graduated from Caldwell High School and attended Santa Monica City College, CA. and Upsala College, East Orange, NJ where he met his wife. An Air Force veteran, he enjoyed two careers: first as a corrections officer at the Essex County Jail, Newark, NJ and most recently as a computer technician with Getronics, Inc. at Novartis Pharmaceuticals in East Hanover, NJJoe enjoyed fishing, golf, and boating with friends on Budd Lake, where he also ran the K of C family fishing tournament. He will always be remembered fondly for his love of music - his guitar playing and wonderful voice - and the charming nature that gathered him many wonderful friends. Visiting will be on Wednesday April 8 at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Rd (corner of Rt 206) in Chester, from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm, with Knights of Columbus prayer service at 8:30 pm The funeral will take place Thursday, April 9, with an 11:00 AM Liturgy of the Word at St. Jude RC Church, Mt. Olive Rd., Budd Lake. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester. Those who wish to honor Joe may make donations to the charity of their choice that will further cancer research.
